Screening for Plagiarism Policy
HAKIKI: Jurnal Integrasi dan Studi Islam applies a strict policy on plagiarism and academic integrity. Every submitted manuscript will be screened using plagiarism-detection software before entering the peer review process. The journal is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record and upholding high standards of academic publishing ethics.
Classification Based on the Severity of Plagiarism
1. Minor Plagiarism
Minor plagiarism occurs when a small portion of text is copied without proper citation and does not involve significant original data, results, or ideas.
Action: The author will receive a written warning and will be required to revise the manuscript by adding appropriate citations and correcting the problematic sections.
2. Moderate Plagiarism
Moderate plagiarism occurs when a substantial portion of another person's work is used without adequate acknowledgment.
Action: The manuscript will be rejected, and the author will be prohibited from submitting manuscripts to the journal for one year.
3. Serious Plagiarism
Serious plagiarism refers to the unauthorized reproduction of major ideas, data, research results, or significant intellectual contributions from another publication.
Action: The manuscript will be rejected immediately, and the author will be prohibited from submitting manuscripts to the journal for five years.
Classification Based on Similarity Index
Similarity Index Above 40%
Manuscripts with a similarity index above 40% will be rejected because the level of similarity is considered excessive.
Action: Rejected without the opportunity for resubmission.
Similarity Index of 20–39%
Manuscripts with a similarity index of 20–39% will be returned to the authors for revision. Authors are required to improve citations and paraphrasing.
Action: Returned for revision and may be reconsidered after satisfactory improvement.
Similarity Index ≤20%
Manuscripts with a similarity index of 20% or less may proceed to the editorial process, although citation improvements may still be requested.
Action: Accepted for review or accepted with minor citation revisions.
Academic Integrity
Plagiarism is defined as the use of ideas, information, data, images, methods, or words from another source without proper acknowledgment, whether intentional or unintentional. Such conduct constitutes a serious violation of academic ethics.
Authors are required to provide appropriate citations when using:
- Factual information from a specific source;
- Statistical data;
- Specific names, dates, places, or findings;
- Theories, concepts, analytical frameworks, or methodologies developed by others.
Information considered common knowledge does not require citation.
Direct quotations must be enclosed in quotation marks and accompanied by appropriate citations. Copying four or more consecutive words without quotation marks is considered improper attribution even if the source is cited.
Editorial Actions
The Editorial Board of HAKIKI: Jurnal Integrasi dan Studi Islam reserves the right to:
- Reject manuscripts that violate this policy;
- Withdraw acceptance of an article;
- Publish corrections;
- Retract published articles;
- Notify relevant institutions when serious ethical violations are identified.
