Plagiarism Policy

DIMENSI: Jurnal Sains dan Teknologi

DIMENSI: Jurnal Sains dan Teknologi is committed to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring the originality of all manuscripts submitted for publication. Plagiarism, including the use of ideas, data, or wording from other sources without appropriate acknowledgment, is considered a serious violation of publication ethics.

1. Actions Based on the Severity of Plagiarism

Minor Plagiarism

Minor plagiarism occurs when a short section of another work is reproduced without proper citation and does not involve significant data or original ideas.

Action: The authors will receive a formal warning and be asked to revise the overlapping content and provide appropriate citations to the original source.

Intermediate Plagiarism

Intermediate plagiarism involves the uncredited use of a substantial portion of another work without appropriate citation.

Action: The manuscript will be rejected, and the authors will be prohibited from submitting new manuscripts to the journal for one year.

Severe Plagiarism

Severe plagiarism involves the unauthorized reproduction of significant original ideas, research findings, or results from another publication.

Action: The manuscript will be rejected immediately, and the authors will be prohibited from submitting future manuscripts to the journal for five years.

2. Actions Based on the Similarity Index

The similarity index is used as an initial screening indicator. The editorial team will examine the similarity report in context, including citations, quotations, references, standard terminology, and other legitimate matches. A similarity score alone does not automatically establish plagiarism.

Similarity Index Editorial Action
Above 40% The manuscript will normally be rejected due to excessive textual overlap. The editorial team will consider the nature and sources of the similarities before making a final decision.
20–39% The manuscript will be returned to the authors for revision. Authors must improve paraphrasing and ensure that all borrowed material is properly acknowledged. The revised manuscript may be reconsidered.
20% or below The manuscript may proceed to further editorial assessment. Acceptance is not automatic; correct citation, originality, and compliance with the journal's requirements must still be verified. Minor citation revisions may be requested.

3. Plagiarism and Academic Integrity

Plagiarism is the use of ideas, information, data, or wording from another source without appropriate acknowledgment. Whether intentional or unintentional, plagiarism is a serious breach of academic ethics and is prohibited by the journal.

Authors must cite sources whenever they use specific information obtained from other works, including names, dates, locations, statistical figures, research findings, and other factual details, unless the information is genuinely common knowledge within the relevant field.

Authors must also acknowledge the original source when adopting or adapting another author's interpretation of data, methodology, theoretical framework, or other scholarly ideas. Further developing, modifying, or criticizing an idea does not remove the obligation to credit its original source.

When exact wording from a source is reproduced, authors must use quotation marks or an appropriate block quotation and provide a citation. A citation alone is insufficient when the original wording is reproduced without clearly identifying it as a quotation. Paraphrased material must also be properly cited.
