Peer Review Process
Peer Review Process
DIMENSI: Jurnal Sains dan Teknologi is a double-blind peer-reviewed journal. Every manuscript submitted for publication is subject to a peer-review process involving two or more reviewers with expertise relevant to the subject of the manuscript. The purpose of peer review is to assess the academic quality, originality, significance, and suitability of a manuscript for publication. This process helps maintain the journal's scholarly standards and the credibility of published research.
The peer-review process consists of the following nine steps.
1. Submission of Manuscript
The corresponding author or submitting author submits the manuscript through the journal's online submission system, which is managed using Open Journal Systems (OJS). Any alternative submission method, including submission by email, is available only if explicitly authorized by the editorial office.
2. Initial Editorial Assessment
The editorial office conducts an initial assessment to determine whether the manuscript falls within the journal's focus and scope and complies with the Author Guidelines. The editor checks the manuscript's structure, organization, required sections, formatting, and overall academic quality. The manuscript is also assessed for major methodological weaknesses. Before being sent to reviewers, submissions that pass this stage are checked using Turnitin or an equivalent similarity-checking tool to identify potential plagiarism or excessive textual similarity.
3. Appraisal by the Editor-in-Chief
The Editor-in-Chief evaluates whether the manuscript is appropriate for the journal and demonstrates sufficient originality, scholarly interest, and significance. Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's requirements may be rejected at this stage without being sent for external peer review.
4. Invitation to Reviewers
The handling editor invites qualified reviewers based on their subject expertise, research interests, and availability. Reviewers must be able to provide an impartial assessment and must disclose any potential conflicts of interest. DIMENSI applies a double-blind peer-review system: reviewers do not know the identities of the authors, and authors do not know the identities of the reviewers. Manuscripts are therefore provided to reviewers in anonymized form.
5. Reviewer Responses to Invitations
Invited reviewers consider whether the manuscript matches their expertise, whether any conflicts of interest exist, and whether they have sufficient time to complete the review. They may accept or decline the invitation. When declining, reviewers may be asked to recommend alternative experts who are suitably qualified to assess the manuscript.
6. Review Process
Reviewers evaluate the manuscript carefully, considering its originality, relevance, methodology, accuracy, presentation, interpretation of results, and contribution to the field. They may read the manuscript more than once and prepare detailed comments to support their evaluation. If serious deficiencies are identified, reviewers may recommend rejection.
After completing the assessment, reviewers submit their reports and recommendations to the journal. Recommendations may include acceptance, rejection, minor revision, or major revision.
7. Evaluation of Reviews and Editorial Decision
The Editor-in-Chief and the handling editor carefully evaluate the reviewers' comments and recommendations before making an editorial decision. If reviewers' assessments differ substantially, an additional reviewer may be invited to provide further input and support a fair, balanced decision.
The peer-review process typically takes approximately 2–10 weeks, depending on reviewer availability, the complexity of the manuscript, and the number of revision rounds. The possible editorial decisions are as follows:
A. Accept
The manuscript is accepted in its current form. The editorial office informs the author of the decision and provides instructions for preparing the final version, if required. Authors should follow the deadline specified in the editorial notification.
B. Accept with Revisions
The manuscript requires minor or major revisions before it can be accepted. The author must address the reviewers' and editor's comments and submit a revised version together with a response to the comments. The revised manuscript may be evaluated by the editor or returned to the reviewers before a final decision is made.
C. Resubmit for Review
The manuscript requires substantial changes before it can be reconsidered. The editor may request a new submission, which will undergo a further editorial assessment and, where applicable, a new round of peer review.
D. Reject
The manuscript is considered unsuitable for publication in the journal. The editor communicates the decision to the author, normally accompanied by relevant reviewer comments or editorial feedback.
8. Communication of the Decision
The editor communicates the editorial decision to the corresponding author by email through the journal's editorial system. Relevant reviewer comments are provided anonymously to help the author understand the decision and make any necessary revisions. Reviewers may also be informed of the outcome of the review process.
9. Revision, Final Evaluation, and Publication
Authors whose manuscripts require revision must address the editor's and reviewers' comments and submit the revised manuscript within the specified deadline. A point-by-point response explaining how each comment has been addressed should accompany the revised manuscript.
Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers, unless they are unavailable or have declined further participation. For manuscripts requiring only minor revisions, the handling editor may assess the changes without another external review.
Once the editor confirms that the manuscript meets the journal's requirements, it is formally accepted and proceeds to copyediting, proofreading, and publication preparation. Accepted articles are published online and made available as downloadable PDF files, subject to the journal's publication policies.
Editorial note: The duration of peer review and the editorial decision depend on the quality of the manuscript, reviewer availability, and the revisions required. Submission does not guarantee acceptance or publication.
