Corrections, Retractions and Expressions of Concern Policy
HAKIKI: Jurnal Integrasi dan Studi Islam is committed to maintaining the integrity, accuracy, transparency, and reliability of the scholarly record it publishes. If errors, ethical violations, serious methodological problems, or information that may affect the validity of an article are identified after publication, the journal may issue a correction, retract the article, or publish an expression of concern depending on the nature and seriousness of the issue.
This policy applies to all articles published by HAKIKI: Jurnal Integrasi dan Studi Islam.
- Article Corrections
A correction may be issued when an error is identified in a published article but the error does not fundamentally alter the results, conclusions, or scientific integrity of the work.
Corrections may apply to:
- Errors in author names.
- Errors in author affiliations.
- Errors in numbers, tables, or figures.
- Writing or typographical errors that affect understanding.
- Metadata errors.
- Reference errors.
- Other errors in supporting information.
When a correction is required, the journal will publish a correction notice clearly identifying the part that has been amended. The original article will remain available as part of the scholarly record, while the corrected version will be clearly indicated.
- Article Retraction
An article may be retracted when a serious issue is identified that makes the results or conclusions unreliable, or when substantial publication misconduct has occurred.
Retraction may be considered in cases involving:
- Data fabrication or falsification.
- Unjustified manipulation of data.
- Substantial plagiarism.
- Unauthorized duplicate publication.
- Copyright infringement.
- Research conducted without the required ethical approval.
- Serious undisclosed conflicts of interest.
- Methodological errors that make the research findings unreliable.
- Evidence that the article was published through a process that did not comply with scholarly ethical standards.
- Other violations that substantially compromise the validity or integrity of the article.
A retraction decision will be made after a fair and documented review process.
- Retraction Procedure
If an article is retracted, HAKIKI: Jurnal Integrasi dan Studi Islam will:
- Retain the article page in the journal system.
- Clearly mark the article as retracted.
- Publish a retraction notice explaining the reason for the retraction.
- Preserve the article metadata so that the publication history remains traceable.
- Update DOI information when necessary.
- Avoid complete removal of the article from the publication record except in exceptional circumstances.
Retraction is not intended to erase the scholarly record, but to provide transparent information to readers regarding the status of the article.
- Expression of Concern
An Expression of Concern may be issued when there is sufficient reason to question the integrity or validity of an article, but the available evidence is not yet sufficient to support either a correction or a retraction.
An expression of concern may be issued when:
- An investigation into alleged research misconduct is ongoing.
- Preliminary evidence suggests possible data inaccuracies.
- The author’s institution is conducting an investigation into the research concerned.
- There is an unresolved dispute regarding the integrity of the article.
- The outcome of an investigation is not available within a reasonable period of time.
The expression of concern will be linked to the original article and updated once the investigation has been completed.
- Article Removal
Complete removal of an article will only be considered in exceptional circumstances.
Removal may be considered if the article:
- Contains information that is legally prohibited from publication.
- Seriously violates privacy rights.
- Contains information that may pose a serious risk to individuals or the public.
- Violates a court order or applicable legal requirements.
- Contains material that substantially infringes copyright and cannot be adequately addressed through correction or retraction.
If an article must be removed, the article page and bibliographic metadata will, where possible, remain available together with an explanation of the reason for removal.
- Requests for Correction or Retraction
Requests for correction, retraction, or investigation may be submitted by:
- Authors.
- Readers.
- Reviewers.
- Editors.
- Authors’ institutions.
- Other parties with relevant evidence.
Requests should include sufficient information, such as the article title, author name, DOI or article URL, and a clear explanation of the issue identified.
- Investigation Process
Every report of a possible error or ethical violation will be reviewed fairly, objectively, and confidentially.
Editors may request clarification or additional evidence from:
- Authors.
- Reviewers.
- Authors’ institutions.
- Ethics committees.
- Other relevant parties.
During the investigation process, the journal will not make decisions based solely on allegations that are not supported by adequate evidence.
Where necessary, the publication of a correction, retraction, or expression of concern may be delayed until the results of an investigation by the relevant institution are available.
- Responsibilities of Authors
Authors are responsible for promptly contacting the editor if they discover a significant error in their published article.
Authors are also expected to cooperate fully with any correction, clarification, or investigation process conducted by the journal.
Failure to cooperate does not automatically prevent editorial action if the journal has sufficient evidence to take appropriate measures.
- Transparency and Publication Record
Every correction, retraction, or expression of concern will be published transparently and linked to the relevant article.
The notice should include at least:
- Article title.
- Author names.
- Volume and issue information.
- DOI or article link.
- Type of action taken.
- Reason for the action.
- Date of publication of the notice.
HAKIKI: Jurnal Integrasi dan Studi Islam will make reasonable efforts to ensure that all post-publication changes remain traceable to readers and indexing services.
- DOI and Metadata
If an article has a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), the status of any correction, retraction, or other post-publication change will be reflected in the metadata where technically possible.
The DOI of a retracted article will not be deleted solely because the article has been retracted. The DOI will remain in use to preserve the traceability of the publication record.
- Editorial Decision
The decision to issue a correction, retract an article, or publish an expression of concern is the responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief and the editorial team of HAKIKI: Jurnal Integrasi dan Studi Islam.
Decisions will be based on:
- The available evidence.
- The seriousness of the issue.
- The impact on the validity of the article.
