Abstract

Purpose: This article develops an evidence-informed community empowerment model that strengthens Islamic financial literacy through investment education and practical financial planning. The study responds to the persistent gap between financial access and the ability of Muslim households to understand Sharia principles, assess investment risk, and translate knowledge into disciplined financial routines.

Design/Methodology: An integrative review and applied program-design approach was used. Peer-reviewed studies published in 2021–2025 with verifiable DOI identifiers were synthesized together with recent official data from the Financial Services Authority and Bank Indonesia. Evidence was coded into five themes: Islamic financial literacy, investment behavior, financial planning, financial well-being, and sustainable empowerment.

Findings: The synthesis shows that literacy is most effective when it is connected to self-efficacy, financial behavior, goal-based planning, risk awareness, and continued mentoring. The article proposes the LITERASI-BERDAYA model, combining diagnostic assessment, Sharia literacy, budgeting and emergency funds, investment screening, portfolio discipline, consumer protection, and community-based follow-up.

Practical Implications: The model can be adopted by universities, mosques, local governments, Islamic financial institutions, and community organizations as a modular 12-week program.

Originality/Value: Rather than treating literacy as one-way socialization, this article positions it as a capability-building process whose endpoint is measurable financial resilience, responsible Sharia investment, and economic independence
