Peer Review Process
Khidmah: Journal of Pengabdian dan Inovasi Masyarakat implements a double-blind peer review process. Every manuscript submitted to the journal undergoes a review process by at least two reviewers who possess expertise relevant to the manuscript topic. In this process, the identities of both authors and reviewers remain anonymous to ensure objectivity, fairness, and academic integrity.
The peer review process consists of the following stages:
1. Submission of Manuscript
Authors submit manuscripts through the Open Journal System (OJS). To facilitate submission, the journal may temporarily accept submissions via email.
2. Initial Editorial Assessment
The editorial team evaluates the manuscript to determine its suitability with the journal’s focus and scope. Manuscripts are also checked for formatting, structure, and compliance with the Author Guidelines. At this stage, manuscripts are screened using Turnitin to detect plagiarism and measure similarity index levels.
3. Evaluation by the Editor-in-Chief
The Editor-in-Chief assesses whether the manuscript has sufficient originality, academic contribution, relevance, and quality for further review. Manuscripts that do not meet the journal standards may be rejected without external review.
4. Reviewer Invitation
The handling editor appoints qualified reviewers based on expertise, research relevance, and absence of conflicts of interest. The journal applies a double-blind review system in which reviewers do not know the authors’ identities and authors do not know the reviewers’ identities.
5. Reviewer Response
Invited reviewers evaluate the invitation based on their expertise, availability, and potential conflicts of interest. Reviewers may accept or decline the review request.
6. Review Process
Reviewers conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the manuscript, including originality, methodology, clarity, significance, and contribution to knowledge or community service practices. Reviewers provide constructive comments and recommendations, which may include:
- Accept
- Minor Revision
- Major Revision
- Reject
7. Editorial Decision
The Editor-in-Chief and handling editor review all reviewer comments before making a final decision. If reviewer opinions differ significantly, an additional reviewer may be appointed.
Possible editorial decisions include:
- Accept Submission
The manuscript is accepted without revision. - Accept with Revisions
The manuscript is accepted after authors complete minor or major revisions. - Resubmit for Review
The manuscript requires substantial revisions and must undergo another round of review. - Reject
The manuscript is rejected and cannot proceed to publication.
The review process generally takes approximately 2–10 weeks depending on reviewer availability and manuscript revisions.
8. Communication of Decision
Authors receive the editorial decision via email along with anonymous reviewer comments and revision instructions if applicable.
9. Final Publication Stage
Accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting, proofreading, layout editing, and publication. Revised manuscripts must be resubmitted within the specified deadline. Once finalized, articles are published online and made freely accessible in PDF format.
